Space & setting.
Though off the beaten track, this place is a haven of modern design and style. Converted barns for 2, 4 and 6 are set amongst 26 acres of an old Victorian dairy farm – now lush pasture and wildflower meadows, so things are beautifully peaceful and kids can run free. F&B panelling blends with original wooden beams, Scintilla star tiles and beautiful kitchens; underfloor heating, waffle bathrobes, and a hamper of fabulous local produce were our perfect welcome.
For couples, it offers romance and rural escapism, or come with friends and dogs and take over a whole barn. For families, there’s masses of space and you’re just 15 mins’ drive from north and south coast beaches, making the whole Cornish county your playground. And the wood-fired hot tubs, with their huge views, are made for minibreaks with the girls. Most fun, though, is to book the whole place (sleeping 16 in total) and spread out into the communal areas: a courtyard landscaped by the award-winning Matt James, a huge outdoor oak table for sociable dinners, and a firepit for stargazing.

Sustainability.
Keen advocates of sustainable tourism. The cottages all have air-source pumps, which draw heat from the air for hot water and underfloor heating. The site has its own borehole for water (treated by UV without chemicals) and you’ll find a reusable steel bottle in your welcome hamper to cut down on the purchase of single-use plastics. The welcome hampers are also full of local produce, all waste is recycled, trees are continually being planted on-site and there’s an EV charger.

Helford River -
Hayle Beach
- Walk across the fields to the excellent Seven Stars Inn in Stithians (30 mins’ walk)
- Gwithian is everything you could want from a local beach – 9 miles of sand stretching from Godrevy lighthouse to Hayle. Hire surf- and bodyboards here, or go for a blustery walk around the rockpools at low tide, followed by coffee at Godrevy Cafe.
- A 30-min drive will take you to Helford River, a stunning estuary renowned for its marine life (including wild dolphins, if you’re lucky). The best way to explore the 50-mile shoreline? By kayak. You’re spoilt for choice with pubs for lunch along the way, or pack a picnic to eat in the National Trust gardens at Glendurgan.
- The Bissoe coast-to-coast cycle trail was once a mineral tramway for the copper mines, meaning it’s flat and easy to follow. Hire bikes for the 11-mile pathway, which starts in Portreath Harbour and finishes in the picturesque village of Devoran.
- Get up super early to watch the sun rise over Gylly Beach, braving a sea swim while you’re there. Warm up afterwards with a Full Cornish breakfast at the cafe.
