This is Cornwall’s wild and magical southernmost tip, a place of big skies, wind-whipped headlands and jewel-like waters, where fishing boats are still hauled up onto the pebbles with their daily catch. Perched behind a stone wall just moments from Church Cove, this 200-year-old cottage is a whitewashed beauty, complete with thatched roof and a rambling rose over the door. Inside, the scheme is effortlessly stylish, fresh and modern. Rooms are dressed from top to toe in white, and works by the owner’s favourite British artists brighten the walls. Rattan, wicker and jute add a rustic twist to restful rooms and there are splashes of colour from Liberty florals, Pooky lampshades and piles of vibrant cushions.
You can clamber from cottage to cove in a matter of minutes — low tide will reveal a slice of shingle beach, plus rock pools that will intrigue little ones. Mosey into Lizard village for breakfast at the cafe on the cliffs, walk along the SW coastal path — wild in winter, flower-filled in summer — to idyllic Kynance Cove, and scramble over rocks to secret white-sand beaches, where seals play in the surf. Return to board games in the walled garden before sliding into a sea-salty slumber in upstairs bedrooms (2 doubles and a twin).

Kynance Cove
- Amble to Church Cove, and on down to Lizard Point, the UK’s southernmost tip. Keep your eyes peeled for seals basking on the rocks.
- South West Coast path walks abound. The owner recommends the 2.5-mile route around the headland to Kynance Cove, a white-sand beauty. At low tide you can explore huge caves and fascinating rock pools.
- Or spend a day on Poldhu beach. Start with a bacon roll from the cafe, follow with a surf lesson, then refuel with one their legendary hot chocolates.
- There are 2 decent pubs in Lizard village – we like the traditional Top House Inn for a pint – but you can also walk to the Housel Bay Hotel, which has a terrace for sundowners and 2 restaurants overlooking the sea. Wander down to their private beach while you’re here, and dip your toes in crystal-clear waters.
- Explore the nooks and crannies of the Lizard’s coastline by kayak, SUP or on a coasteering day with the friendly team at Lizard Adventure.
- Head to Porthleven for early evening crab sandwiches on the beach or take a seat at The Mussel Shoal, a lively cafe-bar serving moules-frites and cider on long scrubbed tables that line the quay.
- Day trip to Penzance for a dip in the geothermally heated Lido on the seafront, Falmouth for the fantastic Maritime Museum and Rick Stein’s Fish restaurant, or St Ives for beautiful beaches, excellent art galleries and an amble around the Barbara Hepworth Sculpture garden.
