Space & setting.

Hidden away in the heart of Woodbridge — a historic market town with a cool reputation — this stylish flat is a great base for Suffolk explorations. The owner has a keen eye for Scandi design, so muted tones, brass metalwork, panelled walls, crisp linens and vintage furniture all combine in the epitome of good taste. With 2 double bedrooms, it’s ideal for weekending friends, and for relaxed family holidays where a home-from-home makes everything easier. Tumble out of the front door to find a host of shops, cafes and eateries right on the doorstep, many of which are independents. We especially love New Street market with its artisan fashion and Canteen cafe.

Hop in the car to explore the beautiful, beach-hut-lined coast (Orford, Aldeburgh, Southwold) and heathlands brimming with wildlife. When your energy wanes or the light dims, head back, draw the shutters and loaf on the sofa with a book, then gather everyone around the table for a meal sourced from local delis and farm shops (NB, visit actual Table restaurant one night for excellent Asian food).

Getting here: train to Woodbridge then walk (5 mins), or drive

Owner of Orford Hideaway

“This was my first flat, which I bought nearly 25 years ago now. I couldn’t wait to get the keys and start to make it feel like home. I lived here happily for over 10 years and have so many fond memories shared with friends and family. I finally moved out to go travelling with my now husband, and let it to a tenant. I’ve just done a full renovation that involved restoring the original Grade-2 listed sash windows and bringing the flat back to life, and now it is ready to welcome guests.” Owner, Jodie

My Kip favourites

She loves
“Sitting in the front room as the morning sunlight fills the room. The beautiful Georgian sash windows let in so much light throughout the day.”

We love
The interesting artwork and mustard tones.

You may not love
A bit of town noise during the day but quietens in the evening. No parking but car parks nearby. Sorry, no pets.

  • "A gal pal and I headed to Suffolk for a weekend to escape London and we were blown away with Woodbridge Hideaway! We were fortunate enough to be the first guests staying and you could tell a lot of effort had gone into the renovation and putting together lovely finishing touches. Everything felt very new and luxurious and everything in the flat has been done to such a high specification. The location is super central and we enjoyed exploring the local area, going on long walks and the beaches nearby. We drove and were fortunate enough to find parking on a road very close by with no restrictions. We particularly enjoyed the Kip welcome pack and also Jodie’s own personal guide that she provided which was so helpful. Jodie was in contact and on hand if we needed anything/had any queries and even let us have a late check out. Highly highly recommend Woodbridge Hideaway, we hope to return in the winter as the flat is super cosy!"

  • "A special kind of bolthole, wholeheartedly recommended! The flat has been lovingly renovated and everything from the bedding to the cutlery has been carefully considered and sourced from luxury brands. Step outside and you’re bang smack in the middle of the beautiful market town of Woodbridge. Atmospheric morning walks along the river in the morning followed by coffee and pastries at Two Magpies is a delightful way to start the day. I loved heading back to the flat to go back to bed with my book and then hit the lovely independent shops in the afternoon."

  • Take a misty, daybreak wander along the river Deben, and call into the Two Magpies bakery on your way back to pick up flaky breakfast pastries and a warm sourdough.
  • Mooch around Woodbridge’s independents. Vanil does a great line of Scandi homewares, and Pocket an enviable selection of kids’ stuff. We love the New Street market too, for fashion and plants.
  • Further afield, head to Orford for a seafood feast at Jodie’s family business, Butley Orford Oysterage (don’t miss the juicy oysters from the restaurant’s very own beds). Or take the kids for a river walk then hot chocolate at Pump Street.
  • Tunstall Forest offers beautiful bike-riding trails, through the trees and across heathland.
  • We love fish and chips on the beach on a summer’s evening in creative Aldeburgh (20 mins’ drive).
  • In summertime, pick your own posy of flowers at the Southwold Flower Company or walk along the beautiful beach at Covehithe looking for sea glass (40 mins’ drive).
  • Finish your days with a pint of local Adnams in Woodbridge’s Mariner’s pub, or go for dinner at Table: excellent Asian-inspired food.
