Space & setting.

Georgian townhouses dripping with wisteria, Brizzle’s own ‘Golden Gate’ bridge suspended over the River Avon, and antique tables of espresso-drinkers lining the pedestrianised streets: Clifton Village sets a cinematic scene for a weekend away. From the period architecture to the independent galleries filled by local artists, the area has become a hotspot for design buffs, so it’s only right that visiting aesthetes will want to check in somewhere equally original. And where better than these fabulous boho-chic apartments filled with hand-painted bureaus, colourful kilim rugs, roll-top tubs and reclaimed wood?

Parking is tricky, but take the train to Bristol and hop on the little #8 bus to get here, or walk 15 minutes from Clifton Down station. Though hilly, Bristol is a great city to explore on foot — locals hire electric Voi scooters to zip around, too. The leafy Downs and Suspension Bridge are just a 2-minute walk from the apartments, then wander down Park Street, past original Banksy art (this is his home town) and on to to the Cathedral and buzzy Docks area. Later, return to the village for foodie options galore: Milk Bun flips banging burgers; The Albion is a cosy pub, The Ivy needs no introduction, and Nutmeg’s imaginative Indian cuisine is a treat.

Getting here: train to Bristol Temple Meads then taxi (20 mins), or train on to Clifton Downs then walk (15 mins)

“After dropping out of university to help his family with what was then a bed & breakfast, Justin and his wife Charlie caught the hospitality bug and  turned the B&B into a trio of beautifully boho apartments for holiday rentals. They were so popular that they decided to expand the idea in different areas of the UK.” Manager, Ellie

  • "'For our first visit to Bristol, I don't think we could have picked a better place to stay. An excellent location, close to bars and restaurants, that was worth a trek up the hills at the end of the day. The bed was also so incredibly comfortable and we didn't hear any noise from outside. Would definitely recommend it."

  • Every day is a weekend in Clifton, thanks to numerous cafés serving boujie brunches — posh bistro breakfasts at The Ivy, alfresco classics in the sun outside Primrose Cafe, buckwheat and rye pancakes at Coppa Club and poolside mimosas with Turkish-style eggs at The Lido.
  • The Lido is also one of Bristol’s gold spots: restored Victorian baths where you can swim alfresco, sauna, hot tub, and have a range of wellness treatments. Book ahead.
  • No trip to Bristol would be complete without a visit to Brunel’s Clifton Suspension Bridge. Wander across, taking in the views of Clifton and the Avon Gorge below.
  • On the other side you’ll find Leigh Woods, a National Trust woodland. Visit in spring to wind your way through bluebells, or in autumn for dramatic blankets of red fallen leaves.
  • Back on the Clifton side, wander up on to the Downs, or unleash your inner child and whizz down the Clifton Rock Slide, smoothed down by generations of Bristolian behinds.
  • Nearby Park Street is lined with great shops, and leads down to the Cathedral and buzzy Docks area. There, Whapping Wharf offers foodie containers (Root is an amazing veggie restaurant or try Salt&Malt for takeaway fish & chips) and plenty of spots to sit with a drink in the sunshine.
  • Vintage hunters and trinket seekers will love St Nick’s Indoor Markets; urban art lovers and creatives should head up to Stoke’s Croft and the Gloucester Road, for an endless stream of independents.
