Impeccably restored cottage on Cornwall's south coast, 10 mins drive from Fowey and quiet beaches (sleeps 6)
Space & setting.
*Brand new*
Follow the River Fowey (pronounced ‘Foy’) upstream to the pretty village of Golant on its west bank, then check into this Grade-II listed cottage, a carefully restored family home where the sibling owners spent their childhood summers crabbing off the slipway and winning goldfish at the village carnival (which still takes place every August). Whether you’re scouting for the school holidays or rallying your WhatsApp group of friends, the sprawling south-facing lawn, pared-back architecture and snug movie room make Orchard Cottage a serene base for equally dreamy days spent kayaking on the river and walking along the downs.
The restoration took place in 2023, so there’s a box-fresh feel to the butter-yellow kitchen, vintage linen Bloomsbury armchairs and willow-green Cornish crockery, but whilst the contemporary touches – angular lamps, Corbusier-style chairs, blush pink walls – keep it cool, we like that the place still feels loved and lived-in. Hang out in the garden in the sun, take turns in the kitchen or simply make the most of your location – the cottage sits in the heart of the village so wander down to the waterfront for lunch at the Fishermans Arms overlooking the boats, or pitch up at Bar Silo to clink cocktails with a local crowd.
Getting here: drive or train to Par direct from London Paddington, then taxi (10 mins, book in advance)

Surrounds.
- The house is situated in a sessile oak-fringed estuary of the Fowey River, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Bring walking boots to explore.
- Encounter Cornwall rents paddleboards and kayaks at The Boatshed on the waterfront. Time your trip with high tide to explore the creeks and backwaters of the River Fowey.
- Wander down to the waterfront of an evening for drinks in the Fishermans Arms and cocktails in Bar Silo (book tickets well in advance for the latter).
- Pack a picnic and head to the Eden Project’s lesser-known sibling, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, for woodland walks and the UK’s only outdoor jungle.
- Book in with Blue River Table for an unforgettable 3-course banquet on board Tethra, a restored Cornish fishing boat that serves up seasonal dishes.
- Follow the footpath to the harbour town Fowey – you’ll pass Sawmills Studio, where artists such as The Stone Roses and Oasis recorded en route – and can grab a great bite at Sam’s Bistro or Pintxo.
- Beach wise, we love Lantic Bay and Carlyon — book into Carylon’s beach sauna in advance and go for a sea dip then ultimate warm up.
- Spend drizzly days pottering at The Duchy of Cornwall Nursery. Take afternoon tea in the Orangery or wild dine in their woodland terrace tipi, then stroll along the river to the remains of Restormel Castle.
