Stunningly renovated 17thC cottage near the sea in a secret corner of Cornwall (sleeps 4 + 2 kids)
Space & setting.
On the beautiful southeast coast of Cornwall, Kingsand is one of the region’s best-kept secrets. Historically, it’s known for fishing and smuggling, and that sense of under-the-radar magic remains today, encapsulated by this 17thC cottage, one of the oldest in the village. Glorious original features — low ceilings and open beams, original wooden floors and thick stone walls — have been brilliantly blended with vintage furniture and contemporary colours for a rustic-luxe feel. Shells and painted seascapes bring the coastal mood indoors, and if you throw open the windows, a gentle sea breeze fills the sunlit rooms.
It’s a stroll to the sandy beach, rarely busy except perhaps in August, and a little further to other golden stretches. Paddleboard, surf, jump the waves and picnic; life’s simple pleasures are all in place. Later, have a pint in a locals’ pub then wander home for sunset on the deck then a wallow in that deep copper bathtub. Kids will love scaling an old painter’s ladder to reach their bunks and with 2 other kingsize bedrooms you could invite the grandparents or friends to join you, too. Serene and chilled, this feels a million miles from city life.

Surrounds.
- Paddleboard and swim in the wide, sandy bay, then go rock pooling round at Girt Beach, a sheltered shingle cove backed by Kingsand’s landmark clock tower.
- The owners recommend friendly locals The Devonport Inn and The Halfway House for a drink, and The Old Bakery for lunch, halfway between Kingsand and next-door-village Cawsand.
- For surfing, head over to Whitsand Bay, just a short drive from the cottage. Refuel at the Clifftop Café overlooking the beach.
- Take a coastal walk along the peninsula (a certified AONB) to the breathtaking Rame Head, with its 14thC chapel on top.
- Explore nearby Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park. Wander around the beautiful 16thC manor and grounds, before having Cornish afternoon tea at The Farriers in the old stables (jam first, down here).
- Sandways towards Fort Picklecombe is a great place for a late-afternoon beach BBQ before the tide comes in.
