Stunning Cornish retreat with sweeping sea views, a heated pool and heaps of space to gather together (sleeps 10 + 2 kids)
Space & setting.
This 6-bedroom house in West Cornwall’s countryside is as bracingly fresh as the sea air that blows in from the Atlantic. The sea itself is a source of inspiration throughout: splashes of ochre and teal blue conjure memories of holidays by the British seaside; artist Tom Pigeon trawls for treasure in his beachcombing-inspired screen print Shipwrecked, and prints of marine wildlife from the Natural History Museum hang in the kids’ playroom. Here, you’ll also find sustainable wooden toys, along with table football and ping pong for the oversized kids in your crew.
Enormous dormer windows in the main bedroom provide views over the patchwork of fields and wooded valleys all the way out to sea — there’s a sofa in the top bedroom to sit and watch the ever-changing skies. Downstairs a pristine white kitchen with French doors opens up onto a terrace – swim leisurely laps in the heated 10m pool or shrug off the Atlantic breeze like a bathrobe as you step into the steaming cedar hot tub. Comfy, cushioned sunbeds are a hit in summer, but off-season dips are just as delightful. Bring beach towels if you’re more of a wild swimmer: the secluded property is just a short drive from Porthcurno Beach and Sennen Cove, both beautiful.

Surrounds.
- Porthcurno beach is idyllic; a sheltered cove with Caribbean-esque white sands and turquoise waves (10 mins’ drive).
- Catch some culture at The Minack above; an open-air theatre perched on the rugged cliffs (worth visiting even if you don’t have tickets).
- Swell-magnet Sennen Cove is one of Cornwall’s — if not the UK’s — top surf spots. Don’t forget your neoprene.
- A 20-minute drive can deliver you to Mousehole (a historic fishing village), Penzance (an artist’s paradise) and Newlyn (the place to buy fresh fish for the BBQ). Lovetts Coffee and cocktail bar is a local lifeforce at the latter.
- St Ives has golden beaches (Gwithian and Porthmeor are the best), modern art at The Tate, and breezy coastal walks along Zennor Head (have lunch at The Gurnard’s Head en route).
- Go wine-tasting at the award-winning, family-run Polgoon vineyard in Penzance.
