Stunningly romantic cottage for 2, with 10 acres of shared grounds and an indoor pool
Gate House
Space & setting.
*Brand new*
Tucked away behind laurel hedges at a delightful smallholding-turned-stylish retreat near the Suffolk Coast, this historic Gate House is utterly enchanting. Daylight streams in through its ancient arched window flooding the open-plan space with sunshine; a spiral staircase winds up to a kingsize bed on a mezzanine floor. If you’re looking for a very special romantic break, this is the one. Owned and designed by the ex-Content Director for Soho House, the interiors are as serene and stylish as you’d imagine, too. Ticking fabrics in earthy shades cover a headboard and sofa while contemporary art adorns raw plaster walls and the enormous rolltop bath promises lazy soaks a deux.
Though you’re completely private, an idyllic 10-acre sprawl of grounds leads out from the front door, through paths cut with wildflowers, past pretty ponds. The owners live in the main house, and another outbuilding is now a stunning let for 6. Take a swim in the heated pool, bathe in the dawn chorus over a cup of coffee, visit the resident kune kune pigs, then take a glass of wine to the woodland to look for Muntjac deer in the crepuscular light — you’re in the very heart of the English countryside. It’s an ideal base for daytrips too, to the Suffolk Coast and English vineyards. And did we mention how romantic the cottage is?! The owners can even point you towards a perfect proposal spot and arrange a magical dinner in the forest. Just sayin’…

FAQs.
Yes, a super cute local community run pub called The Race Horse, it has a lovely story – the pub was going to close down and the community of neighbours all chipped in and bought it. Excellent selection of local ales and solid pub food.
Yes, it’s heated to 28 degrees, which is warmer than most pools. The greenhouse surroundings keep it super warm in there, but the sides can be raised to merge the garden with the pool.
There are Kune kune pigs, pygmy goats and Burford Brown chickens. But the land is also home to a few wilds treats too – a set of ducks and their ducklings, a red kite, a small Muntjac deer often runs through the top field, and rabbits are always on the apple tree lawn. Doves can be seen, too, and masses of bees and butterflies drawn by the beautiful flowers.
Yes, there are a range of catering options available from low-key cooking help to full-on private chefs and banqueting. You can request a hamper of local produce (£50), and the owners are also happy to take in food deliveries early to set up the fridges for your arrival. A cold beer or wine is exactly what you want when you turn up!
The owners will do their best to help in any way. Forgotten a toothbrush, wellies, torch… want a outside heater, help with the firepit… a last-minute baby sitter… you name it, they will try to support.

The owners have a wealth of experience in event planning and this is their true passion, so let them know if you’d like them to help bring a special occasion to life. They have the best spot for a proposal and can arrange a private dinner in the secret woodland…
