Space & setting.

*Brand new*

Though inspired by the thrilling escapism of traditional Scottish bothies (simple huts made for Highland hikers), these larch-clad cabins are far from basic, in both design and concept. Created with sustainability in mind, they sit on stilts to leave minimal impact on the land, and each is unique in both shape and interior colour scheme. Comfort is a top priority too: lavish bathrooms, sofas in soft tartans and cosy log burners; one even has an alfresco bath for peaceful outdoor soaks.

But it’s the spectacular setting that takes centre stage. Each cabin has a secluded spot overlooking the glassy waters and pine-covered shoreline of Cally Loch. Sit on the terrace and look out for red squirrels and deer emerging from the trees, or watch through large picture windows beside a crackling fire. The estate’s 140,000 acres of land are yours to explore; set off from your doorstep through glens, woodlands and open moorland, or take the longer trails into the rugged hills of the Cairngorms. The cherry on the cake? A discreet WiFi button that disconnects you with the flip of a switch. Your inbox can wait; the wilderness is calling.

Getting here: it’s best to drive.

“Building these was an idea that was brewing for 20 years! However lockdown gave me the time to finally be able to make an idea a reality. As we all paused on life and reflected on a longing to be away from the city and escape to a cabin by a loch, I knew I had to make Glen Glack happen.” Owner, Claire

My Kip favourites

She loves
“The cat’s cradle of footpaths on the doorstep of the cabins; there are miles of woodland trails to explore. Once home again, I love sitting on the terrace watching the ospreys, beavers and red squirrels”.

We love
The gorgeous colour palettes, from Rowan’s earthy reds and Hazel’s pretty heathers to the striking teal-blue walls in Larch.

  • "The cabin is definitely one of the more beautiful we’ve ever stayed in - simple and pristine, and very well laid-out with quality, tasteful furnishings and amenities. With full kitchen facilities, a large bathroom with the shower separate from the bath and underfloor heating; comfortable beds in warm rooms, and a woodburning fireplace with plenty of logs ready; there really is nothing wanting, and we had a wonderful time indoors especially since it got dark and cold early. There were four of us, yet we didn’t feel cramped at all. Its location is sufficiently secluded within an amazing forest on the banks of the mini Cally Loch. All in, we really enjoyed the peace and freshest of air, and appreciate the Atholl estate’s efforts in making it such a great holiday spot."

Sustainability.

Full marks. Environmental impact minimised through building design, materials (local sustainably sourced FSC timber, eco-friendly insulation & low embodied energy roofing sheets) and passive ventilation. The cabins float above grade on stilts to minimise the impact of construction on the landscape. Energy efficient and exceptionally good levels of insulation and high-performance windows. Low-carbon heating with air-source heat pumps. Local logs from the estate’s sustainable forestry used for wood-burners. Surface water managed through individual sustainable drainage system (SuDS) and water butts collect rainfall run-off from the roof. EV charging at each cabin.
