Space & setting.

In the 1800s, this barn was part of the village’s Red Lion pub, with a dance room on its first floor, and beer and wine storage down below. Fast forward to present day and though the ancient beams and original shutters still remain, the ale barrels have been replaced by 2 gorgeously contemporary bedrooms; the dance floor magicked into a designer kitchen and light-filled lounge, with a wood-burner for wintry evenings.

Friends, couples and families will all love staying here. Set high above Dovedale with views stretching for miles, it’s a brilliant base for Peak District walking, while woodland trails, classic country houses, caves and little zoos are an easy drive away. What’s more, the Red Lion itself has been replaced by the famous George pub, which serves award-winning food. Meaning you can keep that beautiful kitchen Insta-ready.

Getting here: you’ll need to drive.

Owners of Peak District Barn and Cottage

Owners Rob and Jo have lived in Alstonefield village for years, and own the manor-house estate. They converted this barn from a near-derelict state, cleverly turning it into an upside-down structure to flood the living areas with light. You can still see the double doors at the rear of the barn, which were originally used for dray deliveries.

  • "The most perfect escape in the picturesque Yorkshire dales. We came with our 3 year old son and found so many lovely things to do nearby, including CBeebies land, chatsworth house and Matlock park farm. The house itself was stunning and quickly felt like home. Spotless and lots of amenities. We would return in a heartbeat."

  • "Simply perfect weekend getaway in the Peak District. A modern day take on ‘the holiday’ cottage and an interior lovers dream! I couldn’t recommend this stay more, from the upside down layout, cloud like beds, underfloor heating and a bathtub to sink deeply into. Everything was a dream :)"

  • "From the moment we entered the village of Alstonefield we were transported to a very happy place - it is a beautiful charming quiet village, Harpur Barn was out of this world - finished to the highest of qualities, we could not fault it. The George pub is out of control good - best pub food I've ever eaten. Can't wait to return!"
