A trio of lakeside cabins with outdoor baths, set in glorious Staffordshire countryside (each sleeps 2)
Space & setting.
*Brand new*
Slowing the pace never looked so good. Metres from a private lake in a sun-dappled field are 3 cabins crafted from oak trees grown in local woodland. They’re far enough apart to feel peaceful and private, yet close enough together to make for a brilliant friends’ getaway (dogs invited). Inside, kingsize beds are layered with Hungarian goose feather and down duvets, with colourful statement headboards upholstered by the owner (have one in mind? She takes commissions, too). Rain showers, colourful crockery crafted just down the road by Emma Bridgewater, and all-natural lavender and geranium-scented soaps, bath bubbles — even dog shampoos — add a touch of luxe, yet the overall feel is wonderfully relaxed.
Outside is just as special: read a book on the deck; stargaze with a glass of wine as logs crackle in the firepit; fill the outdoor tub and sink beneath the suds, watching the pinky hues of the early evening sky reflect on the water. For something just a tad more taxing, you can bring a paddleboard and drift across the lake, strip off for a wild swim or fly fish for trout. And if you can bear to drag yourself away for an afternoon, take a slow ramble along canals and bridle paths to the local pub.

Sustainability.
Crafted from local oak and larch, with recycled plastic roof tiles. Many of the furnishings were bought at local salvage yards.
Surrounds.
- Wander along canals and bridle paths for a local ale at the dog-friendly Cock Inn in Woodseaves or The Junction Inn at Norbury.
- Hodnet Hall is home to 60 acres of unforgettable gardens. Take a stroll, spotting green woodpeckers, toads and butterflies as you go. A map shows short and long walking routes; pop into the cafe for coffee and cake afterwards.
- Linger over an incredible lunch at the Bear Inn in Hodnet. All fruit and veg is plucked from their walled garden, and beef is reared on their estate.
- You can paint your own ceramics at Emma Bridgewater’s decorating studio in Stoke. Pick up some great deals in their seconds shop while you’re there.
- The area’s quirkiest locals can be found at Knightley Alpaca Trekking. Book in advance for trekking, petting and feeding sessions.
- Pip recommends Hawkstone Park Follies (35 mins’ drive). There’s 100 acres of woodland, cliffs, caves, bridges, towers and rhododendron jungles to get lost in – no wonder Brits have been visiting since the 1800s.
