Gorgeous cottage-for-2 in Kent's trendiest seaside town, a stone's throw from the beach, shops and indie cafes
Space & setting.
*Brand new*
Bustling oyster stalls and dog-friendly pubs, fish & chips on the sea wall and colourful beach huts lining the shingle shore; Whitstable is the quintessential London seaside escape, and at this freshly renovated cottage you’re in the heart of it all. With the beach across the road for quick morning dips and light-up-the-sky sunsets, and the high street around the corner, everything is easily reached on foot.
Inside the cottage, you’ll find a mix of moods between the 2 floors. Downstairs, the bedroom is cosy and understated: a double bed flanked by wooden milking stools as bedside tables and a pair of glass-fluted antique brass lamps for nighttime reading. Charcoal walls, tonal green artisan tiles and a cork floor create a decadent bathroom experience, enhanced by a hand-poured cast concrete basin and huge walk-in shower. Upstairs, the vibe is light and airy in the open-plan living space, where large windows reveal an inkling of a sea view. A gorgeous Shaker-style kitchen stacked with stoneware crockery, handmade ceramics and recycled glassware makes cooking a treat, but you’d be missing a trick if you didn’t dine out here – foodies are spoiled for choice, with tapas bars, craft beers and seafood galore, just metres from your front door.

Surrounds.
- Head out early in the morning and watch the boats bring in fresh fish and seafood at the harbour.
- Sip a sundowner at The Old Neptune pub, a 5-minute walk along the beach from the cottage — check their schedule for live music at the weekend.
-
Eat out: Becky recommends Grain & Hearth for breakfast, amazing coffee and baked goods to take home, and Harbour Street Tapas for lunch or dinner (Spanish-style small plates, featuring just-caught seafood)
- Scour the vintage and charity shops along the high street for quirky clothes and second-hand treasures.
- Rustle up a DIY seafood supper with fresh fish, homemade tarts and arancini balls from Wheelers Oyster Bar. The prawn and crab tartlets are owner Becky’s favourite.
-
Chilly day? Sit by the fire in the Sea Farmer’s Dive Taproom on the beachfront, and enjoy a craft beer from their superb selection.
-
Hire bikes opposite the cottage, and zip along the coastline.
- If you’re in town for the 3rd Sunday of the month, don’t miss the antique and vintage fair at Whitstable Castle (it’s also lovely to wander the grounds, followed by tea and cake at The Orangery Tearooms).
- For a special meal, The Sportsman pub in Seasalter is a real treat, serving Michelin-starred food (a lot of which is produced themselves) paired with an incredible wine list (15 mins’ taxi, or walk there).
- On rainy days, watch the wild weather roll in across the sea with a coffee, breakfast or lunch at The Bubble Café on Tankerton Beach.
- Walk along the coast to Herne Bay, part of the Saxon Shore Way, then stop at at Bay Leaf Coffee House for a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast (1 hour 30 min walk) before a day on the beach there. Taxi home afterwards.
