The ultimate luxury glamping experience on the North Norfolk coast (sleeping 2 or 6)
Foxley Lodge, Westgate Farm
Owls Nest, Westgate Farm
Space & setting.
* Brand new*
A carpet of poppies quivers in the breeze; hares box among the cornflower, cowslip and buttercups; the soft call of an owl echoes over the sound of water filling your open-air bath. This safari-style staycation in the Stiffkey Valley is just 10 minutes from from the North Norfolk coast, and its 2 luxurious lodges were inspired by traditional safari tents with roll-up gables that blur the boundary between indoors and out west-facing decks for sunset, and firepits. Purpose-built for couples who want to stargaze in solitude, and families that need calm and comfort from their basecamp, both were designed to help guests feel embraced by nature.
Owners Sophie and Michael (who took the 350-acre farm over from his father) called on local artisans and makers to design these serene spaces with exceptionally stylish details: pretty South Asian textiles were sourced from Country & Eastern in Norwich, solid furniture made from reclaimed wood by Norfolk designer Birdie Fortescue, paint hand-picked from Norfolk’s Fenwick & Tilbrook. In August, you can pick your own sunflowers at the farm, but this place is special all year round: roam the countryside and coast armed with the guidebooks and binoculars, spot the miniature steam train on the Wells Walsingham Light Railway, which runs through the farm, and ask Sophie to fill your fridge with home-cooked meals and barbecue kits from local cook Lucinda Notley (aka Ginger & Juice).

Sustainability.
Michael works closely with Norfolk FWAG to ensure the farm provides beneficial landscapes for wildlife. He’s planted nectar rich areas, leaves fields empty over winter for ground-resting birds and manages their hedgerow in an environmentally conscious way.
Surrounds.
- Kids will love picking sunflowers in season (Aug/Sept)
- Seal-spotting trips embark from nearby Morston Quay, where a handful of family-run businesses can take you to Blakeney Point and answer every question you have about England’s largest grey seal colony.
- Hunstanton’s red-striped cliffs are half an hour by car, or park up in Wells-next-the-Sea and follow the coastal trail to the sandy stretches of Wells and Holkham.
- Set on the banks of the River Wensum (and firmly off the beaten track), Sculthorpe Mill serves up a fresh menu of Cromer crab and Binham blue, but it’s worth popping in even if just for a drink – in summer, there’s often a live DJ in the garden.
- Find flamingos and cranes at Pensthorpe Natural Park, where there are 700 acres of art trails and wetland walks (plus a kids’ play area).
- The mile-long nature trail around Holkam Hall’s lake is a lovely way to while away an afternoon in the company of pink-footed geese in winter and goslings in spring
