Stunningly curated cottage in Stroud's Five Valleys, near fabulous walking and foodie pubs (sleeps 4 + two children)
Space & setting.
With golden stone cottages hugging the hillside, 2 foodie pubs and grazing cattle on the common, Amberley is one of England’s prettiest villages. On the cusp of the Cotswolds and Gloucestershire, views stretch for miles over valleys and vineyards, a panoramic sweep that’s at its best in autumn but idyllic all year round.
This beautiful 18thC cottage is at the heart of it all, an exquisite rental for 4-6. Created by a family of artists, every corner is a vignette. Think artisan ceramics, vintage furniture, reclaimed bronze taps and the softest linens on 2 king beds (choose the top bedroom for epic views; the middle for a rolltop bath and glorious wall fresco by the eldest daughter). There’s a little garden for sunset dining, a cosy living room for after dark, and board games for rainy days. Best of all, the diverse art throughout, a collection that will slowly grow. Come for relaxed walking in Stroud’s Five Valleys, pottering around creative towns, lazy pub lunches and generally time with friends and family in a super-special setting.

Surrounds.
- Stroud’s Five Valleys offer glorious walking, with everything from steep valley hikes to easy ambles along cycle tracks and canal paths. Views span woodland, streams and the old textile mills dating back to the 11thC.
- While away an afternoon on Rodborough Common. Take a kite to fly, and swing by Winstones for their artisan ice cream.
- You can walk to 6 pubs, including Amberley’s Black Horse, which has amazing views and great burgers. The Lodge on the common dishes up excellent Sunday roasts.
- Stroud is famous for its independents. The award-winning Farmers’ Market takes place every Saturday. We’d recommend Woodruffs for coffee and bread from Salt Bakehouse.
- The owners love the Horsley Valley. Wander past the trout farm with its aqua blue waters, have lunch at Ruskin Mill and enjoy its art gallery, or head into Nailsworth for a fancy fish lunch at William’s Kitchen, and a browse of the boutiques.
- Time your stay to coincide with Giffords Circus, a magical old-fashioned circus that tours locally during the summer.
- Westonbirt Arboretum is a 25-minute drive, at its best in autumn, lit up for Christmas, or during bluebell season. Head into Tetbury afterwards for great antiques shopping.

FAQs.
The cottage is located down a historic lane which is not recommended for cars. There is lots of parking either at the end of the lane or through a short cut-through. Both spots are about 50m away and free of charge.
No parties please! The cottage is not suitable for groups wanting to make a lot of noise, due to close proximity to neighbours.
Well behaved dogs are welcome. Maximum 2 per booking. Please bring your own dog’s bedding and towels for muddy feet. We love dogs but they are not allowed on the beds or sofa.
Children are very welcome. The surrounding area and garden is steep and access can be tricky, so be mindful of this when arriving. Please supervise children in the garden. A travel cot can be provided on request.
