Gorgeous upside-down barn on a smallholding near Bude; perfect for families (sleeps 4)
Space & setting.
A few miles inland from Bude and the N Cornwall coast lies a secret rural smallholding that’s a nirvana for families. Kids can run free, exploring 7 acres of gardens with a football pitch, woodland dens and a trampoline. Which means parents can sit in a designer deckchair and read books, or just turn their faces to the sun and bask in the peace. Better still, if you want to come with friends, there are 2 other hideaways on site: The Farmhouse and The Cob, meaning 21 of you can holiday here together.
Days will fly in the easiest of fashions. The owners can point you to golden beaches and places to hire boogie boards and take surf lessons — young and old(er) all welcome. There are glorious coastal walks (best followed by pints in pub gardens), and Bude’s home to some brilliant little restaurants. But most days you’ll just want to return to this beautiful modern barn, with its sunshine-filled living areas. Pick veg from the plot for dinner and play card games outside or in, depending on when you come. The good life, indeed.

Surrounds.
- Bude is surf heaven. Hire kit and book lessons if you’re a beginner; the owners’ kids are both coaches at Big Blue Surf School.
- Or simply swim, paddle and float in Bude’s natural sea pool.
- The owners also run Temple in Bude, an amazing little restaurant serving delicious local produce and cocktails. Come early to sit on the lovely roof terrace, with its sea views.
- Trebarwith Strand is incredibly beautiful at low tide.
- We love rockpooling at Northcott Mouth Beach, and admiring the rock formations at Crackington Haven. There’s a great pub at Crackington where you can sit on the wall and watch the sun go down.
- Walk or run stretches of the South West Coastal Path, awash with stunning seascapes.
- Pretty Port Isaac and Padstow are easy day trips — you can cycle to the latter along the Camel Trail and reward yourself with fish and chips by Rick Stein for lunch.
