A stunning apartment for 2 with a unique botanical garden, in the heart of buzzy St Ives
Space & setting.
There are masses of apartments to rent in St Ives, but this is head and shoulders above the rest (apart from its upstairs sister!). The lower half of a house in the picturesque Downalong region – the former fishermen’s quarter – it combines the creative heritage of the town with unique mid-century decor, and overlooks Porthgwidden beach.
The owners spent months sourcing the vintage furniture and choosing the quirky modern furnishings to offset it, and we adore its colourful green pallette. There’s a 50s velvet cocktail chair, bold emerald tiling and a vintage rocking chair. Tall wicker lampshades dangle over the Eero Saarinen dining table; quirky art includes a papier mache horse head and a folksy loom weaving. Every tiny detail exudes style. And best of all, once you’ve explored the town’s winding lanes and golden beaches, there’s a private botanical garden for balmy evenings and alfresco breakfasts.
Getting here: drive (there’s a parking space), or train to St Ives direct from London Paddington then taxi (5 mins)
Owners Angela and Olivier met at a hotel school in Switzerland. Over the years they’ve travelled the world, had kids, and considered setting up a hotel in Brazil… until they fell in love with St Ives. They also run a super-stylish B&B in town: Trevose Harbour House.
