Space & setting.

As you slip into the bubbles and warmth of an alfresco bath amongst the treetops, you’ll feel as if you’re in a luxe African safari lodge. Below, a rewilded estate stretches for miles, its wetlands already a nesting spot for lapwings, one of the UK’s endangered birds. Birds, indeed, are everywhere. Skylarks and stonechats sing and chirp as you wallow; swifts swoop and twirl overhead. Go for a swim in the reed-fringed pond and you may see the resident grey heron flap majestically off into the air.

Clad in British cedar, the treehouses blend into their indigenous woodland perfectly. Their design is truly one of the most beautiful we’ve ever seen, with an inspired indoor/outdoor design. Kitchen and dining area have open walls into nature, and there are overhead heaters for colder months plus vast braziers next to chairs on the deck, carefully positioned for sunset and watching curlews on the water. Bedrooms are enclosed pods, with cork flooring, colourful accents, dreamy bathrooms, and floor-to-ceiling windows so you can see the wetlands from bed — then stars as night draws in. Homemade meals can be delivered in a hamper (creamy fish pie with salsa verde and crisp asparagus; eggs and smoked salmon, chilled Prosecco), and you feel utterly private and hidden at all times. Really, the whole experience feels like a long-haul honeymoon dream. Yet it’s just 15 mins from Gloucester train station.

Getting here: drive, or train to Gloucester and taxi (15 mins)

“We’d like to be an example of how a country estate can exist in the 21st century. Having been bought up in Africa with the great fortune to go on incredible safari trips I was a nature fanatic as a child. Moving here made me realise that you really don’t need to go to faraway places to get a nature ‘hit’. Rewilding is, to me, the process of allowing something to return to a wild state, where nature can just do its thing with all its beauty, savagery, magic and colour without thinking too much. The impact of this is that biodiversity across the land blossoms; with plants, fungi, birds, small mammals and all the rest finding a true home. The soil will improve and carbon will be sequestered. We’re now in our third year of rewilding a quarter of our 1,000 acres of land, and our bespoke treehouses overlook the wetlands where animals now roam freely. We hope to inspire our guests with the magic of nature.” Owner, Anselm

Sustainability.

The treehouses were built with sustainable materials (British cedar cladding, cork flooring, poplar ply walls) and the clever design allows for maximum insulation, gaining energy from both the sun and occupants. Each treehouse has full recycling in place and an EV charging point.
