A colourful, architectural gem, with heaps of outdoor space and Bude's beaches nearby (sleeps 8)
Space & setting.
Rattan baskets for beach days, abstract paintings, Haeckels toiletries, stacks of indie mags, Studio Herron wall hangings and smile-inducing pops of colour: it’s no surprise that the owners of this fabulous barn conversion come from fashion design backgrounds. One of 3 properties on a 7-acre smallholding in Bude, it’s the kind of place that impresses in-laws and infants in equal measure – better yet, take over all 3, and have a group holiday for 21.
The architecture is a welcome departure from Cornwall’s nautical cliches, with clerestory windows inspired by Norwich Cathedral. Bifold doors flood the open-plan kitchen with sunshine for joyful cooking, or stock up on BBQ bits and serve it fresh off the grill at the alfresco dining table. A private hot tub is perfectly positioned for the evening sun (post-prandial soaks are heaven), and there’s a huge shared lawn with football goals and den-building space for kids. Further afield, surf beaches, foodie restaurants and coastal walks with pub lunches await. Just be warned – a few days here and you’ll be designated official holiday house finder for years to come: friends will reminisce about that place you booked that time; family will pester you for its name every summer.

Surrounds.
- Bude is surf heaven. Hire kit and book lessons if you’re a beginner; the owners’ kids are both coaches at Big Blue Surf School. Or simply swim, paddle and float in Bude’s natural sea pool.
- There’s also a brilliant restaurant in Boscastle called The Rocket Store. It’s great to go for a morning swim in the harbour then get brunch there.
- Walk or run stretches of the South West Coastal Path, awash with stunning seascapes.
- Trebarwith Strand is incredibly beautiful at low tide.
- We love rockpooling at Northcott Mouth Beach, and admiring the rock formations at Crackington Haven. There’s a great pub at Crackington where you can sit on the wall and watch the sun go down.
- Pretty Port Isaac and Padstow are easy day trips — you can cycle to the latter along the Camel Trail and reward yourself with fish and chips by Rick Stein for lunch.
- Or visit lovely Clovelly, with its steep cobbled hills and famous donkeys, then have a long lunch at The Farmers Arms on the way back.
