Space & setting.

This luxe eco cabin is hidden away in a world of green, deep in enchanting Welsh countryside. Birds sing all day, and with 10 acres of private woodland to explore, it’s a true back-to-nature escape, perfect to soothe busy minds. What’s more, brilliant little extras can supercharge your relaxation, from sauna sessions, aromatherapy massages and facials to farm-shop breakfast hampers. You can even get the alfresco hot tub candlelit, warm and ready for your arrival.

Set between Shropshire Hills and the lakes, peaks and valleys of Snowdonia, adventure is there for the taking – if you seek it. But our advice? Hole up and embrace the owners’ slow-living ethos for a truly restorative break. This place is all about simple pleasures; a morning stroll, watching the sunset at G&T Point (a sundowner deck at the end of the woods), stargazing, or simply curling up by the fireside with a great read.

Getting here: drive, or train to Welshpool then taxi (10 mins)
If you come by train you’ll get a bottle of fizz on arrival!

Forager's Cabin, Wales

“Pete and I met at uni – both doing the environmental architecture MSc at the Centre of Alternative Technology. I’ve worked in the environmental movement and the art world since — a mad mix! — and Pete works as Head of Sustainability at a Manchester architectural firm, so eco-friendly is at the heart of everything we do. Since moving to the woods 7 years ago and taking on a huge house renovation project, we’ve had 2 children and opened our little eco-holiday business. Having lived in cities for most of our adult lives, we wanted to create a space that gives people a retreat from city life and a chance to connect to nature – without skimping on little luxuries and with enough ‘extra’ to feel like an indulgence.” Owners, Sophia and Pete

  • "WOW! Loved our stay. The set up inside is beautiful and perfect for the ultimate relaxing break. The hot tub is so lovely and we adored waking up and looking out over the forest. G&T point is also an absolute treat! Sophia and Pete have created a wonderful sanctuary for some R&R. We would recommend staying here to everyone and cannot wait to return!"

Sustainability.

Drawing on their background in sustainable building, the owners have created a space that’s just as gentle on the environment, built from reclaimed materials, with a minimal carbon footprint. Energy is from a green supplier, the woodland is managed for biodiversity, and it is accessible by public transport.

  • Wander to the end of the woodland where you’ll find a firepit and cosy seating area looking out across the fields – perfect for a sundowner or BBQ in summer, or roasting marshmallows in winter.
  • There are walks-a-plenty through peaceful countryside and rolling hills. Follow the footpaths to the local village of Guilsfield with its farm shop (50 mins); stroll along quiet lanes to Powis Castle (90 mins) or drive 45 mins to Shropshire Hills for stunning views without a soul in sight.
  • Wild swim in the river Vyrnwy, which runs through the valley in Meiford, then warm up with a drink or lunch at The Kings Head.
  • Go for brunch at The Greenhouse Kitchen (the owners’ favourites are the shakshuka and breakfast brioche stack) followed by a long walk to Dolforwyn or Montgomery Castle (20 mins’ drive).
  • For a pub lunch that’s a little bit ‘extra’, book into Checkers in Montgomery, run by a talented cheffing couple who made the Michelin guide within a year of taking over the 17thC inn (20 mins’ drive).
  • Go paddle-boarding on Lake Vyrnwy, rent a bike to cycle all the way around it or walk into the hills to find Pistyll Rhaedar, Britain’s highest single-drop waterfall (40 mins’ drive).
  • For epic adventures, the peaks, lakes and trails of Snowdonia are just an hour away by car, offering kayaking, mountain biking or zip-wiring through stunning scenery.
