A seriously dreamy hideaway near hip restaurants, cool galleries and the beach (sleeps 8 + baby)
Space & setting.
This could easily be the hideaway that convinces you to move to Margate – as it did the owners, who came here seeking a seaside oasis of their own. What they’ve created is exactly that. The calming interiors combine raw plaster walls, old wooden floorboards and open-brick fireplaces, offset by beautiful reclaimed tiles and immaculate contemporary furnishings, such as the hanging reading chair you’ll all fight to sit in.
A 3/4-bedroomed maisonette spread across the top floors of a Georgian townhouse, you’re ideally located 5 minutes’ walk from Margate’s hipster Old Town and iconic beachfront. Start your day with a refreshing (icy) morning swim, grab coffee from the local roastery, Curve, and end with a nightcap at Bar Nothing, where everything fun happens around midnight. What you do between sunrise and sunset is up to you – relax into Margate’s magical ebb and flow, and see where it takes you.
Getting here: drive, or train to Margate then walk (13 mins)

Surrounds.
- Hometown of Tracey Emin, it’s no surprise Margate has a great reputation for modern art. Start at the iconic Turner Contemporary by the harbour, then seek out the smaller galleries and edgy studios, like the Carl Freedman.
- Walpole Tidal Pool tempts even the most reluctant of cold-water swimmers. Built in 1937, it’s a stunning piece of English bathing history and now the UK’s biggest tidal pool – swimming a width at its centre is roughly equivalent to 6 lengths of your standard 25m pool. Warm up afterwards at the Walpole Bay Hotel, which perfectly encapsulates that early 1900s bygone era (and does a delicious afternoon tea).
- The Old Town’s antique shops are a treasure trove for vintage hunters, whether you’re after jewellery, clothes or homewares.
- Pick up a pizza from Ralph’s and take it down to the main beach for the best sunsets this side of California – loved by Turner, Emin and many more Margate fans to come.
- Foodies will love Sargasso, Angela’s and the New Street Bistro. Bookend your meal with a drink at the Rose in June pub and a nightcap at Wildes.
- Dreamland is the UK’s oldest amusement park; bring your skates for the roller disco.
- Walk or cycle the Viking Coastal Trail to Broadstairs, past low chalk cliffs and golden sandy beaches, with sweeping views across the English Channel.
