Space & setting.

Taking up residence on one of Ramsgate’s most sought-after Georgian squares, this design-led home offers tranquil views of the sea through stunning full-height windows. Flooded with light, lashings of flecked marble meet brass hardware and stylish dark cabinetry in the kitchen, but it’s the Instagrammable bathroom – think standalone egg-shaped bath, marble sink, zellige tiles, Aesop products – that steals the show. Much of the furniture and lighting is from Soho Home and the living / dining room is the perfect social space – just watch the red wine near those gorgeous white bouclé chairs.

While there’s plenty to do in the historic town – boutique shops, artisanal bakeries, pubs and, of course, the beach – given that this period property looks like it’s been plucked from the pages of an interior-design magazine, we wouldn’t blame you for simply hanging out at home. It’s a beautiful rental for friends, but despite the sophistication, it’s brilliant for a young or brand-new family too, thanks to a Bugaboo travel cot, high chair, selection of wooden toys, even a baby gym. Board games, books and a cosy nest in each room will keep older children entertained. One with friends or grandparents, perhaps?

Getting here: drive, or train to Ramsgate then taxi (5 mins)

“We dreamed of buying a coastal house during the pandemic and each time we briefly came out of lockdown we would take road trips down to the Kent coast. This was the first and only house we saw – we were immediately smitten!” Owner, Charlie

  • Wander around the buzzy marina then down to Main Sands for a golden beach and easy swimming.
  • Choose from any number of seaview eateries. Eats N’ Beats is our favourite spot for tapas and cocktails, or try Flavours by Kumar for an incredible curry. Kids will love the Shakey Shakey Fish Bar.
  • There are some great little artist studios in the arches along the marina, plus antique and retro shops around the harbour.
  • Stroll along the pier at dusk to watch the sun set over the harbour and lighthouse, and the fishing trawlers return from a day at sea.
  • Lunch on fresh mussels at the Sir Stanley Grey Tavern in pretty Pegwell Village, 20 mins’ walk along the white clifftops from town. Below is a warren of smugglers’ caves!
  • Keep walking and you’ll reach Dumpton Gap — a pretty little cove — then charming Broadstairs.
  • Spend an afternoon in modish Margate where you can visit the Turner Contemporary, tuck into small plates and organic wine at Dory’s or Angela’s, go for a dip in Walpole Bay tidal pool, or have a restorative spa treatment at Haeckel’s.

FAQs.

Parking on the square is free but in high demand! In the event that a space cannot be found you may need to take advantage of the Waitrose car park until people start leaving the beach. So far we have never had this issue.

The kitchen, dining room and family bathroom are on the ground floor – the house is Grade-II listed so the owner was limited with what she could change. There’s a lounge and double bedroom on the first floor, and a further double and master are on the second floor.

The bathroom is a wet room with shower plus a free-standing bathtub.

Yes! There are sea views in the dining room, lounge and master bedroom

There is no garden, but the house is on a gated square.

Hourly trains run to Ramsgate from London St Pancras. The journey is approximately 1 hr 18 minutes and its a short taxi ride from the station to the seafront.
