Space & setting.

An early morning plunge in your wild swimming pond, followed by coffee on the jetty, toes dangling, as you watch the dragonflies flit across the crystal-clear water… if there’s a better way to start a day, we’ve yet to discover it. This peaceful spot on a countryside farm beckons you to unplug. Read in the wicker swing seat, spot wildlife from your deck (you’ll find binoculars inside), watch pink skies spread across the horizon at the end of the day.

Bustling Cambridge is 5 miles away along a direct cycle path, so bring bikes if you can; there are countryside walks, too, along the pretty River Cam and around the Grantchester meadows. Later, return to the secluded comfort of your timber-clad cabin, with its copper-lined shower, beautiful green-velvet bed, and miniature kitchen stocked with homemade goodies for breakfast. As dusk descends, light the firepit and have supper beneath the stars, or wander across the fields to the village pub.

Come with friends: the gorgeous Bluebell Wagon is on the same site (sleeping 2).

Getting here: drive, or train to Cambridge then taxi (5 miles).

“We bought the farm with no grand plan; we just renovated the house, then the outbuildings (2 of which are B&B rooms), always trying to retain the rural and rustic charm of the place. When the large original pond needed dredging, we decided to turn it into something a bit special and got advice on swimming ponds before completing most of the work ourselves. It immediately filled with wildlife and became our favourite part of the property and when the old bird hide collapsed,we put the cabin its place. We have free-range chickens and a few orphan lambs each year as a nod to the farming history, but are not tough enough to be real farmers!” Owner Jo

My Kip favourites

She loves
“Sitting out with a sundowner drink, and watching the resident woodpeckers, moorhens, rabbits and muntjac deer pop to the pond for their own ‘sundowners’!”

We love
The thoughtful extras. You can order cooked breakfasts to be delivered plus deli platters, firepit grill kits (meat/veggie/mix) and pizza kits for easy meals.

You may not love
The cabin is small and cosy. Guests from the 2 B&B rooms can book to use the swimming pond between 2-4 pm; otherwise it’s all yours. The main house is behind the cabin across the lawn, so you’re not totally secluded. Sorry, no pets or children allowed.

  • "A wonderful experience. Amazing location by an amazing swimming pond. Lovely cabin"

    Mark, September 2024
  • "This place is the definition of rest and relaxation! Absolutely everything has been thought of here and it is obvious how much time effort and care goes into the place! The outdoor shoes, the honesty shop, the home cooked pastries and the food packs meaning you never even have to leave! The pond was refreshing and it was lovely to sit on the jetty in the sun and admire all the nature around us. We've never stayed anywhere like this before and would absolutely love to return one day. It's been one of the most relaxing trips we've had in a long time."

    Lauren, September 2024
  • "I had a lovely 2 night stay at Crafts Hill Barn. The setting is beautiful next to the gorgeous swimming pond, so tranquil. Dragonfly Cabin had everything you could need and breakfast provisions were a treat."

    Sarah, August 2024
  • "The Dragonfly Cabin is a peaceful, wild and secluded place indeed! Jo, the owner, has drawn out maps for rambling and exploring various surroundings, beginning right outside the cabin !….. On one of the walks, you can also explore Madingly Hall, a university, built in the 16th century, with its walled garden, stunning grounds and courtyards. A stone´s throw away from the uni is the Three Horse Shoe pub with delicious food and a great hang out area. Coming back to base after a few hours, a refreshing dip and swim in the pond is so great and gets all your senses up. Blissfully happy and tired from rambling and exploring, you hit the big and comfortable bed, looking out to the pond, lit up by fairy lights, all around……finally put to sleep by the sound of the fountain. If you want to dive under and escape the city and stresses, this is the place."

  • "A secluded, romantic spot to create unforgettable memories. We loved sitting out on the deck, gazing over the special swimming pool and wildlife. We took a brief but exhilarating dip (it was January!) so would love to come back when it gets warmer. Inside the cabin, it was really warm and cosy. There are lots of beautiful touches, from the freshly baked pastries and bread for breakfast, the Nespresso milk frother for the perfect coffee, the cosy nook with a fairy light branch, to the little bedside shelves for books and tea. We made pizzas, visited local pubs, and did countryside walks from the door. Thank you."

  • "We had the best time here, we didn’t want to leave! It is such a peaceful and relaxing setting and all the hosts are so attentive."

    Francesca, August 2021
  • "What an absolute slice of heaven. From the delicious baked goods for breakfast, to lazy lunches on the jetty and wild swimming in the pond, then cooking dinner over the firepit whilst sipping red wine under blankets… Tranquil and secluded – a truly magical place! We have loved every minute and can’t wait to return."

Sustainability.

“We have solar panels, an EV charging point, and the food we serve is locally sourced where possible. We carried out much of the building work and all of the decorating, sewing and repurposing of furniture ourselves. I try hard not to buy anything new (aside from top-quality mattresses, bedding and towels), and to keep our waste and energy consumption as low as possible.”

Unfortunately not. We do love them and have one of our own who you might meet, but our site is not securely fenced.

Our retreats and suites are adults only, though babes in arms are welcome. We can provide a travel cot. We just ask that you respect that other guests may be enjoying a child-free break.

Not necessarily! We have recently seen an increase in the number of guests who arrive by train and a taxi from Cambridge station. There are a few buses into Cambridge from just outside our gate or a more frequent service a short walk away. Ubers and cabs are about £15-20 into the city centre, or you can just chill out here, preordering food packs and two pubs within walking distance.

Cambridge is the perfect city for exploring on 2 wheels. It is about 5 miles into the city centre from here. If you would like to bring your own bikes, there is plenty of space to secure them outside each space. Alternatively hire our ebikes for the day.

All our spaces have good fibre broadband wifi, so you can keep in touch. The mobile signal is not always great for some networks though so do enable wifi calling or use WhatsApp.

We love it when guests book in for a special celebration and are happy to help. We have birthday bunting that we can pop up in your space as a little surprise and lots of treats you can preorder to have waiting for your loved one. Hand-tied bouquets of flowers, delicious Italian patisserie cakes, bottle of fizz and balloons can all be arranged through our local suppliers. Please contact us once you have made a booking.

All our spaces have a small kitchenette to prepare breakfast and light snacks but not an oven or hob.
