The very best places to stay in

Cotswolds

The Cotswolds are idyllic at any time of year, all honey-hued villages, pretty market towns, gently rolling countryside and amazing gastropubs. Weaving up from Gloucestershire to Oxfordshire, and spilling into Wiltshire, Somerset, Worcestershire and Warwickshire en route, they’re a huge part of England geographically (800 sq.m ish, for that pub-quiz knowledge), and ooze quintessential British charm: cricket on the village green; thatched cottages; stately homes, golden churches and ancient battle sites. See our Kip tips for the region, below.

Our design-led places to stay in the Cotswolds include romantic cabins with a hot tub, dog-friendly cottages, and a boutique treehouse! All unique, and ideal bases to explore the Cotswolds at that lovely holiday-slow pace.

Architecture

We love Chastleton House – a Jacobean beauty, dating back to 1612 — and Unesco-listed Blenheim Palace, birthplace to Winston Churchill.

Must-visit

Breathtaking villages. Bourton on the Water — aka Venice of the Cotswolds – is gorgeous, all willow trees and stone bridges over the River Windrush. Bibury is another gem, home to the former weavers’ cottages on Arlington Row.

With kids

Spend a day at Cotswolds Wildlife Park, admiring lemurs, giraffes, rhinos, red pandas and capybara.

My Kip favourites

Foodie treat

The Pig in the Cotswolds, walkable from our T Barn Huts, and The Wild Rabbit in Kingham. Also, pop into Daylesford Organics from this Chipping Norton cottage, for deliciously fresh, nourishing food and a bottle of their rose Frizzante!

Best activity

Walking the Cotswolds Way. Our favourite stretch is through Winchcombe and Broadway, and this restored chapel is a brilliant base near the Chipping Campden section.

Secret Kip tip

Explore Black Jack St and Stable Yard in Cirencester. The city’s oldest street, it is lined with brilliant independents and quirky antique shops.
