The very best places to stay in

Skye

If you dream of escaping to dramatic coastlines, windswept moors, white-sand beaches and fairytale waterfalls, the Isle of Skye delivers all that and more. A remote slice of the Inner Hebrides off Scotland’s northwest coast, it feels like another world — rugged, romantic and enchanting.

Connected to the mainland by a bridge, though only 50 miles long, the island feels vast and untouched, stretching from the craggy Cuillin mountains in the south up past the colourful capital of Portree to the haunting Trotternish Peninsula in the north. And whether you’re hiking up the Old Man of Storr at sunrise, eating just-lucked oysters in Carbost or drinking smoky single malts as you gaze at sea lochs and distant mountains, Skye guarantees an unforgettable stay. See our Kip tips for the region below.

Our Skye hideaways include romantic cabins with sea views, cosy cottages, design houses and a Winnebago with a view! All are unique, great value, and a great base for exploring the Isle of Skye.

Best activity

Hike the iconic landscapes. The Quiraing is a high loop walk through surreal rock formations and sweeping views, whilst The Old Man of Storr is a steep climb by anyone’s standards, but with incredible views up top.

Must do

Wild swim. Dip at least your toes at Coral Beach near Dunvegan (white sand and freezing turquoise waters), then go for full immersion in the crystal-clear Fairy Pools.

With kids

Take a boat trip from Elgol and spot wild seals, dolphins, even basking sharks if you’re lucky, plus jagged Cuillin views from the sea. Or visit Dunvegan Castle, the historic home of Clan MacLeod.

Foodie treat

In addition to Carbost’s oysters, we had an incredible meal at The Three Chimneys; legendary fine dining in a croft setting.

Secret Kip tip

Walk to Brother’s Point. Tucked along the Trotternish coast, this lesser-known headland is like a mini Quiraing by the sea, all grassy cliffs, sea stacks, and dino prints (yes, really!).
